During our annual Foal Eagle (FE) exercise, we headed to the Korean peninsula to train with the South Korean special forces. Someone in the Pentagon wanted to save money and determine the feasibility of transporting us by boat instead of flying us up there. The original itinerary had the vessel leaving Okinawa at 4 p.m. and arriving in Pusan, South Korea the next morning at 7 a.m.; the 16 hour trip ultimately took 44 hours. Once we arrived, I understood the term "sea legs". It took 3 days before my equilibrium returned to a semi-state of normalcy.
